What does it protect against?

K18 states up to three days of conditioning protection against UV, heat and mechanical styling. In Florida the UV part is the one that matters most — it's what fades color between appointments.

Will it weigh my hair down?

No. It's built without film-forming silicones and waxes, which are what causes that coated, heavy feeling and the buildup that follows. Apply mid-lengths to ends and build only if you need more.

Can I use it with the K18 mask?

Yes, but not before it. The mask goes on clean, towel-dried hair with no conditioner underneath. Use this on your normal wash days instead.

Is it worth it over a cheaper conditioner?

It depends what you want from it. As a detangler, plenty of cheaper conditioners do the job. What you're paying for here is the lipid-barrier and UV protection between washes — which matters most if you're colored, heat-styling, and in the sun.
